It’s time for some DIY at Home, courtesy of Miss Kaylea. If you’re ever bored and don’t know what to do, take a random, boring object and paint it!! Keep reading to learn how to turn a glass bottle into a vase.
Here is what you need to make it:
- A glass bottle
- A sharpie (color doesn’t matter)
- Acrylic paint (I used white, green, and yellow)
- Paint brush
- Paint pallet (or a paper plate)
- Black acrylic paint to outline
Step 1: Find a glass bottle and scrub it clean.
Step 2: Grab a sharpie and start making triangles on the bottom half of the bottle. Don’t worry if your triangles are messy! That adds to the character.
Step 3: Add your paints to a paper plate or palette. I’m using shades of yellow and green, but you can use whatever shades you like.
Step 4: Begin filling in the triangles. I’m also leaving some triangles untouched by paint.
**Quick Tip: Be intentional with your brush strokes as the acrylic paint will give it a stained-glass effect on thinner layers, whereas thicker layers will make it more opaque.**
Step 5: After the first layer of paint dries, feel free to continue on with more layers until you’re satisfied. I used around 3 layers of paint.
Step 6: Once your bottle is dry, take black acrylic paint and outline the triangles to cover up any sharpie showing through.
Step 7 (optional): Feel free to spray a sealant on the bottle or use a varnish. I’m just leaving it as is so I can repaint it depending on the flower I place in it.
Stick a plant in that bad boy and you’ve got yourself a vase!! I used some Spanish moss and totally real yellow mums. Now my bonsai tree has some company by the window.
