The Battle of the Book Clubs is coming! On February 8, 2025, adults 21 + up can team up to win a literary trivia contest at Hopewell VFD Banquet Hall.
- What is the Battle of the Book Clubs?
- The Battle of the Book Clubs is a friendly competition where different book clubs read selected books and compete in trivia and discussion-based challenges related to the books. It’s a great way to engage with literature, meet other book enthusiasts, and have some fun!
- How do we participate?
- To participate, simply register your book club by the specified deadline. Each club will need to select a team captain who will be the main point of contact. Once registered, your club will receive a list of books to read, along with details about the competition format and schedule. All attendees must be at least 21 years old.
- How many people can be on a team?
- Each team can have up to 5 members. If your book club has more than 5 members, form multiple teams.
- Which kinds of challenges will we face?
- Challenges will include a mix of trivia questions, thematic discussions, and creative activities related to the books. Points will be awarded for correct answers, insightful discussions, and creativity.
- How are the books chosen?
- The books are selected by a panel of organizers with input from participating book clubs. We aim to choose a diverse range of genres and authors to appeal to different interests.
- Do we have to read all the books on the list?
- To compete effectively, your club should read all the books on the list. However, there will be general book lover trivia intermixed, so you still have opportunities to win points if you didn’t read them all.
- What if we don’t finish a book before the competition?
- While it’s best to finish all the books, we understand that life gets busy. You can still participate, but keep in mind that questions and discussions will cover the entire book list.
- How long will the competition last?
- The competition will span over 2 hours.
- Are there any prizes?
- Yes! Prizes will be awarded to the top trivia teams and there are additional awards for categories like Best Team Name. Prizes may include books, gift cards, and other literary-themed items.
- Is there a cost to participate?
- There is a $25 per team registration fee. You can pay online or at the circulation desk.
- How can we prepare for the competition?
- Besides reading the books, you can prepare by discussing them in your club, creating mock quizzes, and reviewing major themes, characters, and plot points.
- How do we win?
- The team with the most points at the end of all the trivia rounds will be declared the winner.
- How can we stay updated on competition details?
- Once registered, your team captain will receive all necessary updates via email. You can also follow our social media pages or check our website for updates.
